| Description: |
Redesign of the Drawing Office processes of Boral Building Technologies who manufacture a range of elevators, moving walkways and building maintenance units. They had two drafting/design offices to develop production elevators and to maintain the standard components within each elevator module. This project involved undertaking a Business Process Re-Engineering consultancy which included developing a technical user requirements analysis of the Computer Aided Design (CAD) system currently in use at Boral. The results of this assignment included a re-designed business process and CAD system capability. A number of substantial problems were identified with the CAD system including a severe lack of training, lack of application integration and lack of common direction. This project was undertaken on contract to Price Waterhouse Urwick. |

| Description: |
Review of the appropriateness of the Department's CADD system as a suitable tool to assist the Division of Housing Production in their changed work practices and building focus. Previously they had used CAD for drafting only and they now wanted to make optimal use of the technology for design, estimating, project management and down-stream asset management. Additionally, the IT Division were developing a major condition database (Ingres/Unix) for the 37,000 dwelling units under their control for asset management. Many Departmental offices were interviewed, the existing technology overviewed for suitability of expansion and application development and recommendations and action plans developed for the promulgation of the existing technology as well as incoming DOS based CAD technology to take the Department well into the 90's.
